How to get sober without going to rehab
You don’t have to disappear from your life to get your life back.
Welcome to The Freedom Room. A place where recovery is built on understanding instead of judgment, where change happens through connection instead of shame, where people are seen for who they are and not defined by their struggles.
At The Freedom Room Wellness and Recovery, we know that overcoming alcohol and other drug addiction isn’t just about stopping drinking or using. It’s about healing what lies beneath. Our approach is clinically informed, trauma-informed, and deeply compassionate, because lasting transformation comes from within.
How we can help
We bring together clinical expertise, lived experience, and community, built around the person, not just the substance. By combining professional knowledge with a genuine understanding of what recovery actually takes, we help people move beyond simply stopping drinking or using, toward the deeper healing, personal growth, and lasting change that make long-term recovery possible.
One-on-one support:
Counselling, coaching, and evidence-based therapies like CBT and EFT, tailored to your goals. Family & relapse prevention: Rebuilding trust with the people around you, plus practical relapse-prevention planning. Sessions can be weekly or whatever pace suits you.
In-person programs:
Our core recovery experience: the 12-week recovery package and one-month foundations program, delivered face-to-face where connection and community happen most naturally, without stepping away from your work, family, or everyday life.
Online Support:
We deliver our Online Recovery Program entirely via Zoom for people who live too far away to join us in person. The same program, the same clinical and lived-experience approach, delivered remotely so distance isn’t a barrier to getting help.
Groups & community:
Recovery meetings, workshops, and Sober events with others walking the same path. Monthly Breathwork with our own accredited facilitator. Everyone who works or volunteers at the Freedom Room is in recovery and has lived experience.
Sober Curious :
What if changing your relationship with alcohol didn’t start with giving it up, but with understanding it? You just need to be curious enough to ask, “What if life could be different?” If this has got your attention, then The Sober Curious Journey is for you.
Meet Rachel Acres & Discover The Freedom Room Difference

My name is Rachel Acres. Fourteen years ago, I made a decision that changed my life forever. I got clean and sober.
What followed wasn’t just recovery from alcohol addiction. It was a journey of rebuilding my life, discovering who I was, and learning that lasting change is about far more than simply putting down a drink or a drug.
Today, I am the CEO and Founder of The Freedom Room and The Freedom Room Foundation.
Over the years, I’ve seen too many people fall through the cracks. Some don’t need residential rehab. Some can’t afford it. Some don’t connect with traditional recovery pathways. Many are left feeling judged, misunderstood, or convinced they should be able to do it alone.
That’s why I created a different approach. Read Rachel’s Full Story
How to get sober without going to rehab
Our 12-week program is designed to fit into your life, so you can keep working, stay at home, and manage your daily responsibilities while you break free from unhealthy drinking patterns and build a life worth staying clean and sober for. We focus on the real reasons behind alcohol use- emotional pain, trauma, mental health, and stress and help you build practical tools to handle life without turning to substances.
This isn’t a one-size-fits-all program; it’s a personalised, hands-on approach designed to help you find freedom and stay on track for the long haul.
It’s More Than Just Sobriety
Getting clean and sober is an important first step, but lasting recovery is about so much more than putting down a drink or a drug.
At The Freedom Room, we say recovery is 10% about the substance and 90% about everything else. Alcohol or drugs are rarely the root cause; they’re usually what’s covering it. We call that other 90% emotional sobriety: the ability to experience life on its own terms without needing to numb, avoid, control, or escape difficult emotions. It’s learning to manage stress, anxiety, anger, and fear in healthy ways, building the resilience, self-awareness, and confidence to navigate life’s ups and downs without turning to old coping mechanisms.
Getting sober can change your circumstances. Emotional sobriety changes your life.
At The Freedom Room, we help you uncover the underlying causes of addiction while building the tools, mindset, and support you need for long-term recovery through education, community, professional expertise, lived experience, and evidence-based therapies.
Because recovery isn’t just about stopping. It’s about becoming emotionally stronger, more connected, more self-aware and building a life you no longer feel the need to escape.
That’s where real freedom begins.

Addiction doesn’t discriminate—but unfortunately, access to treatment often does. Through The Freedom Room Foundation, we’re working to make high-quality support available to everyone, regardless of income.
Your donations help us provide real help with alcohol addiction to people who would otherwise go without. Every contribution gives someone’s parent, child, friend, or neighbour a chance at lasting recovery.

Meet the team
Our counsellors, meeting facilitators, and workshop leaders are all in recovery themselves. Their lived experience brings a level of authenticity and empathy you won’t find everywhere; they know firsthand the challenges you’re facing because they’ve faced them too. At The Freedom Room, we’re not just professionals; we’re people who’ve walked this path and understand what it takes to keep walking it. That’s the kind of support that makes real, lasting change possible.
