When I first got sober, I was full of fear, not knowing what the future held. Fearful of what life meant without alcohol. How could anyone live without alcohol? After all, it is everywhere.
How would I celebrate my children’s 18th? Would they never be able to buy me a drink? At this point, my two girls were only 10 and 12, but this was a genuine concern.
It was suggested I had to look at all the things in my life to be grateful for, and at that time, I found it very hard to be thankful for anything. After all, I COULDNT DRINK ANYMORE. All I could see was I was sober, and the drama in my life had stopped, but I could not see past that. Why was I the girl that could not drink anymore?
