When I first got sober, I was full of fear, not knowing what the future held. Fearful of what life meant without alcohol. How could anyone live without alcohol? After all, it is everywhere. Learning about gratitude helped me cope with this fear.
How would I celebrate my children’s 18th? Would they never be able to buy me a drink? At this point, my two girls were only 10 and 12, but this was a genuine concern
It was suggested I had to look at all the things in my life to be grateful for, and at that time, I found it very hard to be thankful for anything. After all, I COULDNT DRINK ANYMORE. All I could see was I was sober, and the drama in my life had stopped, but I could not see past that. Why was I the girl that could not drink anymore? Practicing gratitude seemed impossible.
